At East Bentleigh Dental Group, we are considered one of the best practices in Melbourne for Dental Implants which is why our patients trust and recommend us. We have a transparent process and we deliver what we promise. The process we guide you through with Dental Implants is as follows:
Consultation
Prior to surgery, we first inform our patients of what’s in store for them. We discuss the step-by-step procedure, what they can expect after the surgery, and we also make sure that they are qualified to get Dental Implants, for the best possible results.
Qualification
We don’t just operate on any patients for Dental Implant Surgery. We first make sure that our patients are suitable to receive the treatment. Safety and the comfort of our patients are at the top of our priorities. There are several factors to consider before surgery should take place and these include the presence of suitable bone structure for the root to be stable and the establishment of any previously experienced hypersensitivity to the proposed metal used for the implant.
Surgery
During the surgery, the first step is the insertion of the implant. We use only the best materials for our Dental Implants, in order to get them to merge perfectly with the jawbone and prevent the body from rejecting the implant. For patients with insufficient jawbones, we also offer a bone grafting procedure. This helps the patient to establish enough jawbone for the implants to be inserted and properly anchored.
Comfort
Anaesthesia will always be used for this procedure, in order to ensure maximum comfort for our patients. If our patients are uncomfortable with the procedure, we can offer IV Sedation or Sedation Dentistry, which makes them relaxed and comfortable during the entire procedure.
Although most of our patients are awake during the surgery, with IV Sedation, they will feel completely relaxed but are still aware of what’s happening. Some of our patients have even said that the long procedure only felt like it only took a few minutes and that they felt little pain or discomfort.
Post-Operative Care
After the surgery, healing is essential. We will advise our patients to get regular check ups with us, in order to ensure proper healing, and we will also provide our patients with advice on how to properly care for the implants at home.
Usually, Implants take around 2 to 3 months for the surgery to completely heal under normal circumstances. However, there are some cases where healing will go as long as 6 months.
When the jawbone completely heals around the implant, the next step is to attach the post. This is what holds the crown or the artificial tooth. We will make another opening in the patient’s gum and attach the post to the implant. When the gum completely heals, which takes a couple of weeks, the next step is crown placement.
Our dentists take impressions of your teeth which guide us to making you the perfect set of artificial teeth. As explained, Dental Implant Surgery is a straightforward procedure but you need to remember that it can take as long as 8 months to finalise the entire process.
In spite of the use of biocompatible metals such as titanium, for implant surgery in some individuals, the benefits of dental implants can be completely negated by the effects of a hypersensitive reaction to the implanted root. Where this does occur, the individual can experience any number of negative symptoms including Chronic Fatigue, allergic reaction and disease.
Where these symptoms have been experienced in recipients of dental implants, the removal of the implant can serve to completely alleviate the problem and alternative solutions sought.

An artificial crown can cover a tooth that is severely decayed, broken, or brittle. This should be a painless procedure that takes two or three dental visits and the results typically last from 10 years to a lifetime depending on the materials used in constructing the crown.
Crowns are a propular treatment in our practice & we have systems in place to make the treatment as simple and as effective as possible.

How will I know if I am qualified for Dental Implants?
Our dentists here at East Bentleigh Dental Group will perform a series of tests to ensure that you are an exceptional candidate for Dental Implants. We will evaluate your mouth through a clinical exam as well as perform a dental x-ray to know your potential in receiving the implants. In the exam, the dentist will be able to determine what kind of implant will work for you. The x-ray will also tell our dentists if you have enough jawbone density which can support the implant.
